The digital universe is a terrain of limitless opportunities, but also of ever-evolving risks. In a world where connectivity is essential to business success, the threat of ransomware presents itself as one of the most serious and pervasive challenges.
In 2022, 66% of companies surveyed said they had been victims of a ransomware attack.
In this context, it is critical to be prepared and have on hand with advanced knowledge and robust strategies to protect the beating heart of your operations.
In this article we will look together at the most common types of threats and how to avoid them by implementing an appropriate defense strategy.
Webinar ransomware, the cost of corporate data
A ransomware is a type of malware that completely blocks access to your company's data, system, or digital infrastructure. This particular cyber threat can infect through phishing emails, compromised websites, or exploits of system vulnerabilities.
Once the ransomware has access to your files inside the computer it encrypts them and blocks access, requiring a cryptocurrency payment to unlock them.
According to research by the World Economic Forum, the average cost of a cyber attack is about 6 million euros.
This estimate includes not only the price of ransomware, but also the cost of restoring data and those costs that are considered indirect but still have great significance, such as loss of productivity and reputation.
During the webinar on Wednesday, Nov. 22 at 2 p.m., experts from HYCU and power2Cloud illustrate how to prevent and protect your business from ransomware attacks by implementing an effective defense strategy right away.
Typologies of ransomware
Ransomware is among the best-known types of malware because of the aggressiveness of their attacks, which succeed in permanently blocking access to systems.
Although the modes of attack may differ, ransomware all share a unique feature: the demand for ransom as a condition for restoring data to the rightful owner of the system.
The most common types include:
- Crypto ransomware: is the most common type of ransomware. This type of malware encrypts the victim's system data using an unlock key that is only in the possession of the hackers.
- Locker ransomware: This malware blocks access to the system, preventing the user from using the computer. If the ransom is not paid, the encrypted files and folders will remain locked. In some cases, the ransomware locker can also delete encrypted files, making it impossible to recover them.
- Ransomware as a Service (RaaS): is a business model that allows hackers to purchase pre-coded ransomware and distribute it to their targets. RaaS has made it easier for hackers to launch ransomware attacks, making them an increasingly serious threat.
- Multi-function ransomware: is a ransomware that combines the functionality of crypto ransomware and locker ransomware. This hybrid encrypts the victim's system data, preventing them from accessing it.
Regardless of the type of ransomware, this threat poses a real danger to businesses of all types and sizes.
In Wednesday's webinar in collaboration with HYCU, we will explore all the security strategies needed to effectively defend against such attacks, while minimizing the risk of facing costly ransom payments.
