Are you receiving suspicious and unwanted emails? Use G Suite advanced phishing and malware protection

Are you receiving suspicious and unwanted emails? Business emails every day are bombarded with unauthorized content that can jeopardize sensitive business data, which is why the topic of cyber security never takes a back seat.

Phishing is the No. 1 threat to businesses

Verizon publishes the annual Data Breach Investigations Report (DBIR), an analysis of security in Companies around the world.

In 2019, it analyzed 41,686 security incidents, of which 2,013 were confirmed as data breaches.Phishing remains the leading threat action: it was involved in 32 percent of confirmed breaches and 78 percent of cyber espionage incidents.

This underscores the need to use the right tools, always up-to-date like G Suite, by involving people in training sessions.

We talked about this with Massimo Zito, System Integrator & Business Analyst at power2Cloud. With G Suite, it is possible to configure malware, phishing and spam filtering.

"It is important to emphasize that the detection of these events," Massimo explains, "is related to the artificial intelligence engine that learns based on the many samples at its disposal and from user feedback. As a G Suite Console administrator you can protect your inbox from phishing and malware and choose what actions to take based on the type of threat detected. You can move suspicious content to the Spam folder or leave it in the Inbox with an alert. All security settings can be customized to suit users and teams."

Gmail by default shows alerts and moves untrusted emails to Spam. By reading this article you can detect other unwanted or malicious emails.

Advanced security settings with G Suite

Block suspicious attachments and scripts from untrusted senders. Includes blocking of attachment types not common for your domain, which can be used to spread malware.

External links and images: detects underlying links to short URLs, scans linked images for malicious content, and displays a warning when you click on links pointing to untrusted domains.

Spoofingand authentication: protection from spoofing domain names, employee names, emails posing as coming from your domain, and unauthenticated emails from any domain. A question mark is displayed next to the sender name of unauthenticated messages. Spoofing protection can be enabled for private groups or for all groups.

You can also perform additional tasks with advanced settings, such as:

  • Enable and automatically apply future recommended settings, this ensures maximum protection for emails and attachments for your domain.
  • Provide the highest level of protection for a domain or organizational unit by enabling all security options.
  • Customize security settings by selecting only the options you want to enable. Unchecking all options disables all advanced security settings for the domain or organizational unit.

You can specify an action for each security option you activate. If you do not select one, the default action is applied to the security option.

Other Spam settings. These advanced security features work independently of other Spam settings you may have activated previously. For example, even if you have designated a domain as a safe sender in your Spam settings, the advanced security features will still be applied.

Quarantine action. If you select the quarantine option for one of the advanced security settings, the selected quarantine is applied only to incoming messages. This occurs even if actions to be taken on outgoing messages are specified for the selected quarantine.

Warning banners. Alert banners (yellow box) are displayed only for Google Gmail user interfaces (web and mobile). In third-party applications, an alert banner is not displayed.
