On September 21, Naples, Italy's third-largest municipality by population, also officially entered ANPR (National Register of Resident Population), the national database into which municipal registry offices will gradually flow.

"Digitization -  lets Monica Buonanno, Councillor for Registry and Civil Status, know - is a productive factor on par with others, it facilitates relations between the Administration and people and allows the city to move closer to European standards. The Registry is the beating heart of the Administrations, it marks every step of everyone's lives, and innovating the Registry means doing public service well."

What is ANPR?

Today our identities are scattered in eight thousand municipal registry offices, this results in a slow and articulated bureaucracy. Even the offices of the same municipality are often unable to communicate with each other, and citizens are resigned to long waits and cumbersome procedures to complete simple requests.

Thanks to digitization, with ANPR it will be possible to have a nationwide database that will make it possible to go beyond the self-certification model, shortening and automating all procedures related to master data.

With ANPR, Administrations will be able to dialogue efficiently with each other by drawing on a single and certain source for citizens' data, simplifying change procedures and unifying them nationwide, so that certificates can be obtained without the need to stand in kilometer-long lines at the counter anymore.

What benefits does ANPR have for citizens and public administration?

"Naples as well," Paola Pisano, Minister of Innovation, enthusiastically confirms, "has joined ANPR, which is an extremely strategic project for us. When the Digital Transformation team started three years ago there was only one municipality, now there are 3,000. While there are as many as 30,000 citizens using this project, this means that half of all Italian citizens can now enjoy the benefits of ANPR. What does this mean?

We are creating a large municipality of 60,000 citizens, this means that a change of residence will be able to take place in any city without having to apply for clearance or additional certificates, this means that for our colleagues in the Public Administration, activities will become increasingly simple. We will create a single base on which all Public Administration services will rest.

We hope to be able to make sure that the Public Administration does not ask you twice for the same data, and we hope to be able to make sure that the various Administrations are able to pass data to each other in a way that is increasingly simple, effective and transparent for our citizens."
